Embark Challenge 2024

attention all pet owners!!

Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure with your beloved furry friends? Join me for the highly anticipated Embark Challenge 2024, where every moment becomes a masterpiece and every pet shines like a star!

At Lead Ropes & Leashes Photography, I’m passionate about capturing the unique essence and personality of every pet I encounter. That's why I’m thrilled to participate in the Embark Challenge 2024 with other international pet photographers to offer you the opportunity to showcase your pet's journey through the lens through 12 challenges in the next 6 months starting May 1st.

Embark Challenge is a friendly competition and an educational opportunity through specific guidelines we have to meet with each challenge.

What is an embark Challenge Session?

Twelve lucky dogs will be selected across the challenges and will receive a Lead Ropes & Leashes Photography experience in exchange for your dog’s time, talent and character in a fun experience capturing them. Each Embark Session includes:

  • One Embark Artistry Session scheduled between May-October 2024, that will be unique to one of the challenges.

  • A Discovery Call that we will discuss the location, time and how the session will be conducted.

  • Your own personal Ordering Appointment. You can view your images in a in-person or zoom and purchase your favorites. (No purchase is necessary.)

  • Three complimentary resolution digital images will be given as a thank you. If the image I select and edit makes the Top 10 of the challenge, the image will be gifted as a desk framed print for your enjoyment.

The Challenge Categories

Check out the categories below. Even if there are specifics for commands, majority of the time your pup will be on leash for safety reasons unless stated otherwise.

  1. Coloriffic: The pup will be photographed in an area of bold color.

To be selected for this category your pup should be able to “sit”, “down”, “stay” (or equivalent) and be comfortable in a busy environment.

  2. Get Down: The dog is photographed with the camera set very low to the ground

To be selected for this category, your dog should have solid “sit” and “stay” skills and be confident around strangers because sometimes I need to be closer to the pup for photos.

  3. Composition 101: The dog is photographed as the center of attention in the image.

To be selected for this category your pup should be able to “sit”, “down”, “stay” (or equivalent) with you close or away.

  4. Dogscapes: The pup will be photographed as the location complementing the pup out in nature.

To be the perfect fit for this category, your dog should know how to “sit,” “down,” and “stay". The dog will need to be comfortable with short hikes, and be confident in a new environment. Additionally, the owner will need to be ok to travel with him or her to the pre-arranged location. Location can be up to 2 hours away.

  5. Up-Ups: The dog is photographed up on something, 2 paws or 4.

To be selected for this category, your dog should know how to “sit,” “down,” and “stay” while standing on a (secure) object or surface. the dog will either need to be comfortable being lifted on the object or jumping up and down from it.

  6. Soul Searcher: The dog will be photographed from above looking into their eyes

This is a pet owner’s favorite, but your pup will be selected if he or she has a good “sit” and is ok with having someone in their space with a camera.

  7. City Slicker: The pup’s session will be around a city

Your pup must be comfortable in an urban area (public places) and be decent with “sit”, “stay” and “down”.

  8. Front Runner: The pup is photographed in action. Usually running towards or jumping over something towards the camera.

To be the right dog for this category, he or she should be healthy condition and motivated to run (either by chasing a ball or toy, running
for a treat, or running to another person). He or she must be able to run, jump, and play repeatedly throughout the session to capture the perfect action portrait.

  9. Say What?: Show off that head tilt

To be selected your pup must have the head tilt when photographed with sounds, sayings or both!

  10. Glow-Up: The dog is photographed at golden hour backlit by the sun

For your pup to be selected, he or she needs to be comfortable in a new environment with nature sights, sounds and smells that could be easy distractions.

  11. Splash: For those water loving dogs

This is for those dogs who love water. Your pup needs to be able to romp in standing water. You must be willing to travel to a place with a water feature (pond, lake, river, or even a beach).

  12. Party Time: The pup or pups are photographed having a party!

For your dog(s) to be chosen they must be full of life, playtime is a must, rules are out the door when photographing their play time. They must be confident in new areas, have a decent recall because they will be off leash.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Pets cannot be off leash, will that be ok?

Except for the Front Runner or Party Time, if you feel dog needs to stay on leash, that is perfectly fine! Leads are easy to take out during the editing process. Most of my photos I photograph and post, the pup was on lead due to the area we are photographing in. Thought, if you usually walk your dog in a harness, please have a collar and lead for photos available. This will help with time during the editing process since many harnesses are very large and take up majority of the pup’s body.

Can i be in photos with my pet?

Of course!! I strive to show that connect between your furry family member and their family or favorite family member. I highly encourage but if you feel you do not want to show your face, I do take photos of your hand on your pup, or them sitting next to your legs. We can still photograph your connection to them without showing your face.

Do I have to pay anything?

Once your pup is selected for an Embark session, you are under no obligation to pay anything extra. You will receive a complementary custom photoshoot and three high resolution image files for your time and talent that you will chose at our post session meeting.

If you would like to enjoy more images of your dog from their Embark session, you do have the ability to purchase products available I order through professional labs, at a 10% discount.
